Essay Writing Essentials: Make Sure Your Paper Corresponds To The Main Writing Rules

Although students in America are entitled to their freedom of expression, paper writing comes with a few structured rules that allow a student to remain on topic while freeing floating ideas in their head. Some of these rules include, but are not limited to:

  • Topic
  • Grammar & Spelling
  • Subtopics
  • Style
  • Conclusion

Topic

All papers are written on some sort of topic whether it be the production of maple syrup or how to write an essay. Whenever undertaking a writing assignment, the person must answer the questions of What. Who, Why or How? In order to receive recognition for one’s writing, the topic should be clear and concise allowing the reader to want to finish the entire essay.

Grammar & Spelling

The most important part of the English language is that of spelling and grammar. As a student progresses through their education, they are expected to appear more intelligent than someone who has just started kindergarten. Grammar and spelling allow the reader to freely understand what the author/editor is attempting to say in their paper. Poor grammar is seen as a lack of intelligence and poor spelling can confuse any reader or any age group, making them take longer to read a Grammar and spelling allow the reader to freely understand what the author/editor is attempting to say in their paper. Subtopics

With topics come subtopics; i.e. papers on Ireland would have sub-topics on their government, education, historical attractions, etc. No paper is written without the aid of these items. The more sub-topics a student includes in their writing, not only will their paper be longer, but they will also be able to formulate ideas about the thesis of the paper more quickly. Students should include at least three sub-topics that re-emphasize their topic in order to start their paper, then continue to build from there.

Style

If a paper is supposed to be written in past tense and is written in future, it is wrong. The same thing can be said for writing a persuasive essay as compared to a narrative, or a narrative as compared to a step by step how to guide. Style in writing gives a paper depth and meaning and should be the main focus of the paper after the topic.

Conclusion

Wrapping up a paper is one of the easier tasks when it comes to a paper writing rule. The conclusion is used as a way to reemphasize the original point of the text and to re-offer the author’s point of view on how they arrived at their point of the essay.
